Summer health thoughts

Two of the most common reasons for hospital visits in the summer are heat stroke & dehydration. Most people think if they’re drinking enough water, they’re covered! But that’s not the whole truth… On days where we're sweating more than usual, spending a lot of time in the sun, or eating less carbs, we need to make sure to have a high-quality electrolyte drink to avoid these 2 very common summer struggles. Our bodies need electrolytes to deliver hydration to every cell in our body. Without enough, you’ll feel tired, get headaches, experience brain fog, and more! Plus - every time you break a sweat you’re losing these essential electrolytes! And if you eat a low carb diet, you could also have electrolyte imbalance because these diets modify how our body uses insulin, and insulin holds onto sodium. So as we reduce our insulin need, we also reduce our sodium. Supplementing with electrolytes is an easy solution to boost your summer intake, but it can be hard to find a high-quality product. I have found that most electrolyte drink mixes on the market are made with added sugars, sugar alcohols, dyes, and fillers. And even if you can find one without these harmful additives, they’re likely made with isolated, synthetic electrolytes and don’t contain all of the ones your body needs for optimal hydration.
